Urban League of Palm Beach County Received the John W. Mack Award for Top Performance out of 90 Urban League Affiliates throughout the Nation
The Urban League of Palm Beach County (ULPBC) received the John W. Mack Award at the 2018 Whitney M. Young Gala at the National Urban League (NUL) Conference in Columbus, Ohio on Friday, August 3rd. The award was given to only 4 affiliates (Omaha Urban League, Broward County Urban League and Louisville Urban League), in the nation for achieving a 5.0 rating on their performance assessment.
ULPBC received the highest score of 5 out of 5 by NUL on the 2017 performance assessment. This perfect score has only been obtained by a few other affiliates and this is ULPBC’s second consecutive term rated as a 5.0 by NUL in the areas of Board Governance, Fiscal Management, Program Delivery and Impact, Community Involvement, Advocacy and Civil Rights.
NUL Affiliates are governed by an elected volunteer board of directors consisting of individuals who are committed to ULPBC’s mission. The board establishes management practices, policies and procedures, assures that adequate human and financial resources are available, and actively monitors the organizations financial and programmatic performance.
The affiliate Performance Assessment consists of criterion standards and indicators set forth by NUL in the areas of Administration and Governance, Organizational Soundness, Annual Reports, Board of Directors, Policies and Procedures, Strategic Planning, Organizational Vitality, Fiscal Policies and Procedures, Endowments, Corporate Goals, and Legal Compliance and Accountability. Each affiliate is required to provide and in-depth report verifying how they met those standards through indicators of effectiveness in those aforementioned areas. The assessments are scored from a range of 1 – 5 with 5 being excellent performance by an affiliate.
ULPBC continues to demonstrate a high standard of service to its more than 18,000 clients by offering 22 free programs because our goal is to “Empower Communities and Change Lives.”
“I am humbled to receive this award on behalf of my Board of Directors and staff who have excelled at creating effective programming, yielding tremendously positive results for the Urban League of Palm Beach County’s goal in serving more than 18,000 Palm Beach County clients, said Patrick J. Franklin, President and CEO.”
