Workforce Development

The Urban League of Palm Beach County is a critical resource to the local community. Helping clients who are unemployed or underemployed develop competitive job skills, and receive training as well as placement in employment.

We have several workforce development programs which include:

  • Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office Urban Youth Employment Program
  • Urban Tech Jobs Program
  • Urban Youth Empowerment Program
  • Red Nose
  • City of West Palm Beach

Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office Workforce Development Program

This program provides 18-25 year old offenders with intensive workforce development and case management with the goal of finding the participant permanent employment while developing the skills necessary to be successful in maintaining a job.

This program is available free of charge to individuals who are:

  • Between the ages of 18 to 25,
  • A high school dropout,
  • Residing in PBSO unincorporated areas or contracted cities,
  • Previously involved in the criminal justice system or will be released within 90 days (no sexual offense or offense with serious intentional bodily harm to others),
  • Willing to actively participate, and
  • Not receiving services elsewhere

Once admitted to the program participants will be required to engage in workforce development activities, education and training, and case management. The schedule will be tailored to each individual’s needs, interests, career, and educational goals.

Participants receive comprehensive services delivered by dedicated instructors and coaches, including:

  • Stipends for participation in select activities
  • Hands-on work experience and access to employers
  • Job placement assistance
  • Referrals to apprenticeships and training providers
  • Personalized financial planning services and counseling
  • Access to case managers and tutors

Urban Tech Jobs Program

Out of work and searching? Consider a job working in the tech field! The Urban Tech Jobs Program (UTJP) is an accelerated technology training program that is exclusively designed for unemployed adults 18 and older who have a high school diploma or GED. The customizable program includes job readiness and resiliency workshops, certificate or license bearing technology training classes, and paid work-based training. As a result of graduating from the program, participants will be able to compete for jobs in a high demand and growing industry.

This program is available free of charge to those who meet the following criteria:

  • Must be unemployed 27 weeks or greater
  • Must have a high school diploma or equivalent
  • Must be 18 years or older

Once enrolled in the program, participants are eligible for:

  • Free classes and training leading to an industry recognized IT certification
  • Paid work experience
  • Job readiness workshops
  • Stipends and emergency needs payments

Certification Options

  • CompTIA A+; Network+, Server+, and Security+
  • Microsoft Technology Associate (MTA)
  • Microsoft Certified Solutions Associate and Expert (MCSA and MCSE)
  • Cisco Certified Entry Network Technician (CCNET)

Urban Youth Empowerment Program – Red Nose

Are you a young adult who missed more than 20 days of school in the 2016-2017 school year? Are you worried about how you will find a good job with little or no work experience? If you answered ‘Yes’ to either of these questions, the Urban League of Palm Beach County is here to help you!

The Red Nose Urban Youth Empowerment Program (UYEP) aims to help young adults increase their education, skills, and find a job. Participants may also receive:

Services/Activities

  • Hands-on work experience and access to employers
  • Access to case managers and tutors
  • Stipends for participation in select activities
  • UYEP aims to help young adults reach their educational and career goals with four weeks of workforce readiness training.

Eligibility Requirements:

  • A youth/young adult between the ages of 16-19; and
  • Residing in a high poverty/high crime community
  • A youth/young adult who missed at least 20 school days in the 2016-2017 school year; or
  • A youth/young adult who has no work experience or unemployed for 3 months

Urban Youth Empowerment Program – City of West Palm Beach

City of West Palm Beach Urban Youth Empowerment Program (UYEP) aims to help young African American males ages 18-24 who currently reside in Northern West Palm Beach who have barriers obtaining employment such as a criminal background, lack of education, and/or a lack of work experience.

UYEP aims to help individuals increase their education, skills, and find a job. Participants will also have a chance to give back to their community. Participants may also receive:

  • Hands-on work experience and access to employers
  • GED instruction, study materials, and test vouchers
  • Job placement assistance and follow-up services
  • Access to case managers and tutors
  • Stipends for participation in select activities


Eligibility Requirements:

  • Are between the ages of 18 to 24
  • Currently or previously involved in the adult criminal or juvenile justice system or a high school dropout
  • Currently live in areas served by the Urban League of West Palm Beach (33407 or 33401)
  • Demonstrate interest in UYEP WORKS activities
  • Veterans have priority enrollment

Once admitted to the program participants will be required to engage in workforce development activities, education and training, case management, mentoring, restorative justice, and community-wide efforts to reduce violence and crime.
